TREE DESCRIPTIONS

A is for ‘acer’ which is Latin for maple.
d is for ‘dissectum’, the lace leaf or cut leaf form.
p is for ‘palmatum’, one of the several species of Japanese Maple. It has the greatest number of cultivars.
j is for japonicum, another species of Japanese Maple.

Bright green leaves conrast uprigt branches of the deep red of a late night camp fire. Fall color is super scarlet! This tree is fast growing and very tolerant of both heat and drought. Selected and named by Michael Dirr and not to be confused with a previous cultivar with red leaves by the same name. larger sizes only @ $55.00 - $85.00


A. p. 'Grandma Ghost'

Variegated, reticulated leaves of 'Grandma Ghost' are a mix of amber, white and light green. Mid summer these colors are muted but fall brings bright rewards of reds. #2 @ $50.00


A. p. 'Green Fingers'
UPRIGHT  •  5-6'  •  5-8  •  SUN TO PT SHADE
On young wood this tree has green leaves that are deeply divided, similar to 'Omurayama'; it also has spring leaves that look like cheerleader's pompoms, great for a St Patrick's Day party. Fall colors are yellow and tangerine. This is a vigorous grower. #2 @ $50.00; larger specimens @ 65.00& $75.00


A. p. 'Hessei'

Bright red and deeply divided with jagged margins in spring, the leaves go bronze in summer then cherry red in fall. The form spreads with age. #2 @ 50.00


A. p. 'Higisa yama'
UPRIGHT  •  16-20'  •  ZONE 5-8  •  FULL SUN TO PART SHADE
In early spring unfurling yellow leaves explode from long crimson red bud sheaths. Each mature leaf looks as if stitched and lightly gathered to create light puckered bands of cream, green and pink. The variegation is quite wonderfully showy but does not appear on branches of the new season's growth. This plant is showy and vigorous. available in 10" containers @ $75.00 and $110.00


A. p. 'Hogyoku'

Hailing fall with seasonal spirit, Hogyoku turns from summer's deep green to pumpkin orange with umber accents. The leaves are thicker than those of most palmatums. Growth habit is strong, tall and wide, not twiggy. #2 @ $45.00; also available in 10" @ 65.00 & 75.00


A. p. 'Hohman's Variegated'

A. P. 'Ichigyoo ji'

This sister of 'Osakazuki' is persued by aficionados. The difference between the two is that this one turns ornage in fall and the other scarlet. When planted together they create a fall fantasy of color. #2 @ $55.00


A. p. 'Iijima sunago'

Large, almost floppy, leaves are deeply divided and red with a yellow-green vein down the middle of each lobe. Fall colors start out yellow but soon add a mix of reds and oranges. The crown is oval on heavy upright architecture. # @ $35.00; #2 @ $50.00; larger @ $60.00 & $70.00


A. p. 'Inazuma'

Rolling thunderstorms come to mind when one lies under this tree. Its white veined, black red leaves simulate a dark sky streaked with lightening. It is fast growing and has an upright form with mature branches that bend downward at the tips. A. p. 'Itami nishiki'
UPRIGHT  •  12'-15'  •  ZONE 5-8  •  SUN TO PART SHADE
This is a rare and very colorful maple. Bright green leaves are rimmed in ribbons of pinkish red and cream. Although the tones change through the season the cool green to warm red contrast remains. #1 @ $35.00; #2 @ 50.00; larger @ $65.00
